Adeteju Alao is the Director Finance & Accounting Lagos State Pensions Commission
Mrs. Alao Adiat Adeteju (FCA),(CFE), until her deployment as the Director Finance and Accounts, Lagos State Pensions Commission, served as Director Pensions, Local Government Staff Pensions Board in the Local Government Establishments, Training and Pensions Office in August 2020 she also served in the Monitoring and Investigation Directorate of the State Treasury Office from August 2015 August 2020.
She is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria with over 20 years cognate post qualification experience in Finance, Compliance and Forensic Audit service in public sector accounting and management with demonstrable experience in positions of high responsibility.
She is a strong communication and excellent relationship builder who can develop deep financial insights that can influence great performance in public sector accounting. She was a member of the State Projects, Finance and Process Compliance Audit (SPF-PCA) Committee chaired by the former Head of Service, Mrs. Josephine Oluseyi Williams. The Committee was inaugurated by Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on 4th November 2019 to carry out a compliance audit of all outstanding and on-going Capital projects in the State through liaison with all relevant Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs). Some of the remarkable guidelines and processes in the procurement, Legal and project Ministries spanned from the recommendations of the Committee’s report of Febuary 2020.
Mrs. Alao also served as the Project Accountant of the Lagos/Kebbi (LAKE) Rice Project; an assignment she carried out excellently well. Building on her career in Social and Management Science, she proceeded to Leeds Beckett UK (formerly, Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds) between 2010 and 2012 where she obtained a Masters Degree in Corporate Governance and also became a Certified Fraud Examiner of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) USA in 2021. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation
of Nigeria (CITN) 2016, Nigerian Institute of Management(Chartered) 2004 and Association of Chartered and Certified Accountant (ACCA) Certificate in International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) 2018.
Mrs. Alao started her career in June 2001 on GL 08 with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). She worked in so many roles from the Marketing to Head, Internal Audit before rising to become the Financial Controller and Head of Accounts Department from May 2005 to August 2015. Her deployment to the Mainstream of the service led to her formal transfer of service to the Main Stream in 2016. She subsequently joined the Monitoring & Investigation Directorate, State Treasury Office in 2015 and rose to be the Head, Investigation Unit where she led Teams to the inspection and investigations into the Books of Accounts of MDAs up till her deployment in August 2020.
In her role as Director Pensions in the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, under the Local Government Establishments, Training and Pensions Office with the responsibility of managing the Board and Local Government pensioners who are under the Defined benefits Pay as You Go scheme activities. Her experience in forensic auditing guides her in the discharge of her duties. As at date, she has succeeded in reducing the monthly pensions paid to Local Government Pensioners with her monthly Payroll Forensic Audit Skills by removing and transferring of other State’s share from Lagos Local Government Pensioners pay. With the introduction of alternative mode of conducting “I’m Alive Pensioners Verification Exercise during the COVID 19 insurgence in 2020, over 6000 Pensioners were verified on-line using Whats-App video calls from the comfort of their homes and it was a great success. Leveraging and improving on that success earned her a recommendation letter from her Permanent Secretary in 2021.
She is a seasoned professional and a team player with great ability and passion to achieving set goals, meeting of financial reporting deadline to ensure highest level in any management reporting and sustaining a strong ethical improvement in the Finance Sector.
