Text of Speech By Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle Honourable Commissioner For Establishments, Training And Pensions, At The 81st Retirement Bond Certificate Presentation To Retirees Of The Lagos State Public Service Held At Anchor Events Center On Friday 10th Of December, 2020.

Mr., Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor;
The Chairman & members of the Lagos State House committee on Establishments, Training, Pensions and Public Service;

The Representatives of the of the Pension Fund Administrators and Insurance Companies;
Our Retirees, the Celebrants of today;
Gentlemen of the press;
Distinguished Ladies and gentlemen.
When I was appointed by Mr. .Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State as the Honourable Commissioner to steward the affairs of the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions in August, 2019, I solemnly resolved to do all within my powers to prioritize the welfare and interest of pensioners in Lagos State Public Service. Since the ministry and the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) have been doggedly pursuing this resolve and have, within limited resources to ensure the prompt payment of the government’s pension obligations.
The ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions, has been ensuring that staff welfare both in service and post service is well taken care of, staff salaries are paid promptly pensions of the retirees under the Pay As You Go pension scheme are paid monthly, while LASPEC ensures payment of Accrued Pension Rights of Contributory Pension Scheme Retirees into their RSA account to enable the pension fund Administrators pay monthly.
We know the liabilities are huge but our Government remain committed to your welfare Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been making fund available to Commission to pay all due retirees, despite the issue of global pandemics hovering across the world the Government has made it a continuous monthly payments processing of accrued pension fund into their Retirement Savings Account to enable have access to their retirement bond benefits.
Today under the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu , Lagos State has faithfully honoured its obligations under the Lagos State Contributory Pension Scheme LAW (the Law), such that the State is now presenting bond certificates to the 81st batch retirees from the public service, further more the Lagos State Government has been consistently winning the National Pension Commission’s award for the Best Compliant State in the Federation. We are committed to maintaining this rating by continuing and improving on the timely of all pensions and other applicable benefits to our retiring workers upon disengagement from service.
Furthermore, the Lagos State Government is proud to report that:
In less than 1 year and 6 months .i.e., May, 2019 to October 2020.We have paid accrued pension rights of N 23,049,689,911.98 to 5,819 Retirees. The sum will be credited into retirement Savings Account on the 81st batch of retirees of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
As you retiree, I wish you to advise you to embrace the joys and challenges of this new phase of life.
